Saptrishi Ashram is an ancient hermit retreat situated along the banks of River Ganga in Motichur near Haridwar. Founded by Goswami Guru Dutt in 1943 upon an ancient Vedic sacred site, this ashram commemorates the seven legendary Vedic sages (Saptarshis) in Uttarakhand.
According to ancient Hindu scripture, the seven great rishis Kashyapa, Vashistha, Atri, Vishvamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadvaja, and Gautama were engaged in deep meditation here. Not wishing to disturb their intense penance with her roaring waters, River Ganga split herself into seven tranquil rivulets, known as Sapt Sarovar.
The ashram runs an active Sanskrit Gurukul school, a cow shelter (Gaushala), and provides quiet residential accommodation for spiritual seekers. The surrounding mango orchards and flowing crystal waters make it a wonderful sanctuary for meditation and study.
Visitors can attend the morning and evening Vedic rituals performed by Gurukul students. The tranquil riverbank ghat offers peaceful spots to sit and reflect.
