Chandi Devi Temple is a revered Siddh Peetha shrine built on the peak of Neel Parvat on the eastern bank of the Ganga in Haridwar. Built atop the mountain summit, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandi (an incarnation of Goddess Durga) who vanquished the demon kings Chanda and Munda here in Uttarakhand.
According to historical records, the main idol of Goddess Chandi in the sanctum was installed by the great Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. The existing stone structure of the temple was constructed in 1929 by King Suchat Singh of Kashmir.
The temple complex also houses the shrine of Anjana Devi, mother of Lord Hanuman, located just a short walking distance from the main temple. Perched at an altitude of 200 meters above the riverbed, the hilltop offers spectacular bird eye views over Haridwar and the flowing channels of the Ganges.
Pilgrims can reach the temple using the popular ropeway cable car (Udan Khatola) from Nazibabad Road or trek up a 3 kilometer paved mountain trail.
Visiting Hours: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily (Ropeway operates 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
Ropeway Ticket: Rs 170 round trip (Rs 360 for Mansa Devi + Chandi Devi combo)
