Bhimgoda Kund is a sacred historic water tank situated about 300 meters from the holy river ghat of Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar. Steeped in epic lore, this revered water reservoir is linked directly to the Mahabharata period when the Pandavas were journeying toward the Himalayas in Uttarakhand.
According to regional Hindu belief, while the Pandavas and Draupadi traversed this passage, Draupadi felt intensely thirsty. The mighty Pandava prince Bhima thrust his knee (Goda) forcefully into the rocky earth, causing a sweet perennial spring of Ganga water to burst forth and quench her thirst.
Today, the sacred kund is beautified with landscaped gardens, vibrant water fountains, and shrines dedicated to Hindu deities. The reservoir is fed by water drawn from the Upper Ganga Canal, making it an essential spiritual halt for pilgrims visiting the ghats of Haridwar.
Devotees take holy dips in the holy waters of the tank and offer prayers at the adjacent temples. Evenings are tranquil with lit temple lamps and cool canal breezes.
