The Mall

The Mall, officially named Govind Ballabh Pant Marg, is the bustling lakeside promenade that runs along the entire eastern perimeter of Naini Lake. Constructed during the British colonial era in the mid nineteenth century, this 1.5 kilometer thoroughfare connects the two key town centers of Mallital (north) and Tallital (south).

The road was designed as the central social and commercial spine of Nainital hill station. Today, it remains the primary pedestrian hub for tourists seeking lakeside shopping, dining, and scenic mountain views reflecting upon the water.

Lakeside Cafes, Handcrafted Candles, and Tibetan Market

Lined along the road are colonial heritage buildings, heritage hotels, lakeside restaurants, and vibrant souvenir showrooms. Nainital is famous for its exquisitely sculpted scented candles, handmade wooden artifacts, brass knick knacks, and pure wool shawls displayed in shop windows.

Adjoining the northern end lies the bustling Tibetan Market (Bhotia Bazaar), famous for warm winter jackets, trendy woolens, and piping hot mountain street food including momos, thukpa, and roasted sweet corn. During evening hours (6:00 PM to 8:30 PM in peak season), vehicular traffic is banned, creating a relaxed open air pedestrian promenade.
