Gurney House

Gurney House is a historic colonial cottage located on the wooded slopes of Ayarpatta hill in Nainital. Constructed in 1881 using salvaged materials from an earlier cottage, it served as the cherished summer residence of world renowned hunter naturalist, author, and conservationist Jim Corbett and his family.

Corbett resided here with his mother Mary and sister Maggie for decades, crafting many of his celebrated jungle memoirs in this very study. Today, the private heritage property is lovingly preserved by its owners as a living memorial museum.

Victorian Antiques, African Trophies, and Forest Gardens

Inside the cottage, visitors are transported back to the late nineteenth century. The rooms retain Corbett's original teak furniture, family piano, grandfather clocks, hunting trophies, African tribal spears, books, and vintage fishing equipment exactly as he left them in 1947.

The cottage is enveloped by dense oak and cypress woods, filled with blooming English hydrangeas, ivy, and fragrant roses. Guided private tours provide intimate anecdotes about Corbett's thrilling encounters with man eating tigers across the Kumaon hills.
