Eco Cave Gardens in Sukhatal offers a network of six interconnected natural rocky caves sculpted to resemble various wild animal habitats. Maintained by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, this spot gives visitors a hands on outdoor experience of walking, crawling, and clambering through natural subterranean caverns in Nainital.
Each cave is named after Himalayan wildlife species such as Tiger Cave, Panther Cave, Bat Cave, Flying Fox Cave, Squirrel Cave, and Ape Cave. Exploring them requires varying physical agility since narrow clefts demand bending down or squeezing through authentic limestone fissures.
The park sits amidst terraced gardens on Kaladungi Road and features a musical fountain along with elevated viewing platforms looking over the green ridges of Uttarakhand. It provides a thrilling family friendly detour from regular lake promenade walks.
The journey begins easily with wider passages like Tiger Cave and steadily turns challenging. Panther Cave and Bat Cave feature tight tunnels lit by petroleum lamps and hanging electric fixtures, making the cave crawl immersive.
