Satopanth Tal (Satopanth Lake) is a triangular, emerald green glacial lake perched at a high alpine altitude of 4,600 meters (15,100 feet) above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. tucked at the foot of the mighty Mount Chaukhamba, Mount Nilkantha, and Balakun peaks, this sacred tarn is geographically important as the glacial origin source of the holy Alaknanda River.
According to Hindu mythology and the Mahabharata, the Holy Trinity, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva, occupy the three distinct corners of this triangular lake to meditate on auspicious solar days. It is also along this exact route that the five Pandavas and Draupadi embarked on their final celestial ascent to heaven via Swargarohini glacier. The demanding 22 km alpine trek starting from Mana village near Badrinath traverses Anandavan, Vasudhara Falls, Laxmi Van, and Chakratirth across steep moraine ridges and boulder fields, rewarding intrepid trekkers with pristine glacial beauty and spiritual solitude.
