Guchhu Pani, globally renowned as Robbers Cave, is a 600 meter long natural river gorge and limestone cavern formed along a narrow mountain cleft in Anarwala village near Dehradun. Flanked by soaring vertical limestone conglomerate walls, this geological wonderland is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Uttarakhand.
The cave earned its English name during the British colonial era when notorious local bandits and highway robbers utilized the dark subterranean canyons to hide stolen treasures and evade police capture. A fascinating geological phenomenon occurs here where the underground river vanishes beneath rocky subterranean fissures and re emerges unexpectedly further down.
Visitors wade barefoot or wearing rental rubber flip flops through ankle deep to knee deep crystal cold mountain water. The winding gorge narrows to just a few feet in places, ending dramatically at a natural cascading waterfall inside the dark stone cavern.
Rental slippers and waterproof phone pouches are available at the entrance gate. Shaded garden benches, locker rooms, and popular snack cafes operate outside.
Visiting Hours: 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily
Entry Fee: Rs 35 per person (Rubber slippers rental: Rs 10 to Rs 20)
Guchu Pani is located in Anarwala village near Garhi Cantt, about 8 kilometers north of Dehradun Clock Tower.
