Daat Kali Temple, popularly known as Maa Daatwali Mandir, is a historic roadside religious sanctuary situated right at the entrance of the historic Daat Tunnel on the Dehradun Saharanpur highway in Dehradun. Revering Goddess Kali as the supreme protective deity of travelers entering the valley, this temple holds a legendary place in Uttarakhand.
The temple has a compelling historical origin dating back to 1804 when British engineers were digging the mountain tunnel through the rugged Shivalik ridge. Faced with constant rock collapses, a local devotee had a divine dream in which Goddess Kali revealed her presence beneath the mountain rocks. Once the idol was consecrated on June 13, 1804, the engineering work concluded smoothly.
A perpetual flame (Akhand Jyoti) has burned uninterrupted inside the stone cave sanctum for over two centuries. Every motorist, truck driver, and bus passing between Dehradun and Uttar Pradesh stops here to offer mustard oil, coconuts, and red chunris to ensure safe mountain travels.
It is a customary ritual for locals across Uttarakhand to bring new cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles here for special Vaahan Puja ceremonies before driving them on highway roads.

Daat Kali Temple is located at Mohand Pass on the Dehradun Saharanpur Highway (NH 72A), around 14 kilometers south of Dehradun ISBT.
