Sitabani Forest Reserve

Sitabani Forest Reserve, officially part of the Ramnagar Forest Division, is a scenic wilderness buffer zone sprawling across the foothills adjacent to Jim Corbett National Park. Unlike core tiger reserve zones, Sitabani is steeped in ancient Hindu mythology while maintaining rich biodiversity.

According to the Ramayana, Goddess Sita spent her days of exile here under the protection of Sage Valmiki, giving birth to her twin sons Lava and Kusha. An ancient stone temple dedicated to Goddess Sita and a natural spring (Sita Vani) stand deep within the forest.

Birding Paradise, Wildlife Safaris, and Private Vehicles

Sitabani is an exceptional birdwatcher's haven, sheltering over 350 resident and migratory bird species including great hornbills, emerald doves, scarlet minivets, and fish eagles. Dense sal and teak woodlands provide shelter to tigers, leopards, Asian wild elephants, sambar deer, and barking deer.

A unique advantage of Sitabani is that private four wheel drive vehicles are permitted to enter with an official forest permit and mandatory guide, offering greater flexibility. The safari track winds through pristine hill streams and serene forest glades.

Located on the eastern fringe of Corbett, Sitabani Forest Reserve is an enriching wildlife and mythological safari destination across Uttarakhand.
