Jhirna is a renowned eco tourism safari zone situated along the southern boundary of Jim Corbett National Park. Opened to public tourism in 1994, it holds the distinction of being one of the few safari zones in Corbett that remains open for day jeep safaris round the year.
The landscape of Jhirna features a diverse mosaic of dense sal forests, broadleaf mixed woodlands, vast grasslands (chaurs), and seasonal dry riverbeds (sots). This diverse terrain provides an ideal habitat for apex predators and large herbivores alike.
Jhirna is widely celebrated as the best zone in Corbett for spotting the elusive sloth bear feeding on termite mounds and wild berries. In addition, healthy populations of Royal Bengal tigers, leopards, Asian elephants, sambar deer, barking deer, and nilgai roam the jungle tracks.
Jeep safaris enter through the Dhela Gate (16 kilometers from Ramnagar). Inside the zone sits the historic Jhirna Forest Rest House (FRH), where wildlife enthusiasts with advance permits can stay overnight to experience the raw nocturnal wilderness of the jungle.
