Garjiya Temple

Garjiya Devi Temple is a sacred Shakti shrine sitting high on a massive natural rock boulder in the middle of the Kosi River. Located at Garjiya village, roughly 14 kilometers from Ramnagar along the Ranikhet highway, this iconic temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, worshipped here as Garjiya Devi (the daughter of the mountains).

According to regional legend, the massive rock boulder was once washing downstream during a fierce prehistoric monsoon flood on the Kosi. Sage Bhairav, performing penance on the riverbank, invoked divine mantras commanding the boulder to halt, establishing the sacred shrine upon its summit.

River Rock Ascent, Seeta Bani, and Kartik Poornima Fair

Devotees ascend a steep flight of narrow concrete and iron stairs to reach the high rock sanctum. The vantage point provides panoramic views of the crystal clear Kosi river flowing swiftly below against a backdrop of forested foothills.

Beside the main shrine, the complex houses ancient idols of Lord Ganesha, Bhairav, and an ancient 9th century black stone idol of Lakshmi Narayan (Vishnu and Lakshmi). The temple hosts a vibrant annual fair during Kartik Poornima in November, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims for holy dips in the river.

Situated conveniently along the main transit road in Corbett, Garjiya Temple is an unmissable spiritual and cultural landmark across Uttarakhand.
