Rudreshwar Mahadev Temple

Located directly on the banks of the clear Western Ramganga River roughly 10 kilometers from Chaukhutia in Almora district, Rudreshwar Mahadev Temple (Rudreshwar Mandir) is a revered ancient Shiva shrine in Uttarakhand. Situated on the scenic river plains along the highway connecting Dwarahat and Karnaprayag, this peaceful riverside sanctuary is closely linked to the Katyuri and Chand dynasty rulers of Kumaon.

The temple complex features classical stone nagara style architecture with carved pillars, stone water spouts, and an ancient Shiva Lingam inside the sanctum sanctorum. Devotees take ritual purification dips in the flowing waters of the Ramganga before offering holy river water, Bel leaves, and milk at the shrine.

Surrounded by expansive agricultural fields, pine woodlands, and the tranquil sound of mountain water, the temple is an oasis of calm. During Maha Shivratri and the sacred month of Shravan, large gatherings of pilgrims from Almora and Chamoli districts assemble for night long devotional bhajans and fairs.
