Gopinath Temple is an ancient and grand stone temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, towering at the center of Gopeshwar town at an elevation of 1,500 meters in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Built between the 9th and 11th centuries during the reign of the Katyuri dynasty, this towering Nagara style stone shrine is celebrated for its imposing 30 meter high carved shikhara and 24 distinct stone doorways leading to the sanctum.

A primary attraction in the temple courtyard is a famous 5 meter tall antique trident (Trishul) made of eight sacred metals (Ashtadhatu), dating back to the 12th century with royal inscriptions from King Anek Malla of Nepal. Local lore says the trident cannot be shaken by physical force but vibrates gently with the touch of a single true devotee's finger. Pilgrims visiting Gopeshwar also venerate the temple as the official winter seat of Lord Rudranath (Panch Kedar), where the deity's idol is worshipped during snowbound months.
Gopinath Temple is centrally situated in Gopeshwar and easily reached on foot or by local vehicle.
The best time to visit Gopinath Temple is between September and June, with Maha Shivratri being the grandest annual festival.
