Sri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple in Sikar (celebrated across India as one of the most spiritually revered, immensely popular, and miraculous pilgrimage shrines of Lord Krishna manifested as Barbarika, the supreme 'Sheesh Ke Daani' / Donor of the Head and 'Haare Ka Sahara' / Support of the Defeated), situated in the historic Shekhawati town of Khatu just 43 km south of Sikar and 80 km northwest of Jaipur in Rajasthan, is one of Northern India's grandest and most devotional pilgrimage centers.

The Legend of Barbarika: 'Sheesh Ke Daani' & Krishna's Boon

Barbarika, the invincible grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkacha, possessed three infallible divine arrows (Teen Baan) capable of winning the Kurukshetra war in seconds on the side of the losing army.

To maintain cosmic balance, Lord Krishna disguised as a Brahmin asked Barbarika for his head in charity (Sheesh Daan); Barbarika gladly sliced his head, receiving Lord Krishna's eternal boon that he would be worshipped in the Kaliyuga under Krishna's own name 'Shyam'.

Holy Kund: The sacred Shyam Kund is the hallowed water tank where the buried head of Barbarika was retrieved during the reign of King Roopsingh Chauhan.
