Mubarak Mandi Palace is a grand royal palace complex perched high on a cliff edge in the historic walled quarter of Jammu city, directly overlooking the meandering Tawi River. Dating back to 1824, this expansive royal seat served as the official administrative capital and principal residence of the Dogra dynasty rulers of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir until Maharaja Hari Singh shifted the court to Hari Niwas Palace in 1925.

Part of the palace has been converted into the Dogra Art Museum, which houses thousands of priceless historic manuscripts, ancient weapons, royal gold and silver bow sets, and hundreds of exquisite miniature paintings from the Kangra, Basohli, and Jammu schools of art. Art historians travel here specifically to study the rare 18th century Basohli miniature paintings depicting scenes from Rasamanjari and the life of Lord Krishna.
Mubarak Mandi Palace and the Dogra Art Museum are open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (closed on Mondays and gazetted government holidays). Entry ticket to the museum costs 20 rupees for Indian citizens and 50 rupees for foreign tourists. Guided heritage walking tours through the restored courtyards take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
