Rohtang Pass

Rising to an elevation of 13,058 feet (3,978 meters) on the Pir Panjal mountain range, Rohtang Pass is the legendary gateway connecting the verdant Kullu Valley with the arid high altitude deserts of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. Situated 51 kilometers north of Manali along the Leh Manali Highway, the pass delivers unmatched panoramic views of glaciers, craggy peaks, and deep gorges.

Even during peak summer months of June and July, visitors frequently encounter vast stretches of snow along the pass ridge. Popular activities include snow scooter rides, tube sledging, skiing, and walking up toward the source of the Beas River at Beas Kund nearby. The stark contrast between lush alpine meadows on the southern slope and barren Tibetan plateau topography on the northern side is striking.

Due to environmental preservation mandates by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), daily vehicular entry is regulated via online permits. The opening and closing of the pass strictly depend on winter snowfall patterns maintained by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
