Located in the Shivalik Hills and at an altitude of 1437 m. Gangtok is the capital and the largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim and is also known as the land of monasteries, as it has got maximum number of monasteries in the whole world. It is a significant Buddhist Pilgrimage Centre and Buddhist people visit this place every year. Gangtok is situated in the eastern Himalayan range, nestled within higher peaks of the Himalaya Mountain and having mild temperate climate year-round, Gangtok is the most important centre of the tourism industry of Sikkim.

The tourists here can have complete enjoyment in terms of adventure, climate, religious tours and unparalleled natural beauty. Gangtok is a cosmopolitan city offering all possible amenities to the travelers here. Cyber cafes, pool parlours, night clubs and Shopping complexes are available in good number for those who love the night life. MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok is a great place to chill out throughout the day, it’s the country’s first litter and spit free zone, no vehicular traffic is allowed into the marg. This place is also the venue for the annual Gangtok Food and Culture festival held in December every year when Sikkim’s multi-cultural cuisine, along with music and dance performances is exhibited.

Package Itinerary

Day 01: NJP Rly Stn / IXB Airport – Kalimpong (About 75 kms / 3 hrs)
Meet & Greet on arrival at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport & transfer to Kalimpong. On arrival Check-in to hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay will be at Kalimpong.

Day 02: Kalimpong Sightseeing – Yuksom (140 kms / 5 hrs)
After breakfast enjoy half day tour of Kalimpong visit Mangal Dham, Deolo Hill, Dr. Graham’s Home, Golf Garden, Durpin Dara Hills & Flowers Nurseries.  After that transfer to Yuksom (5,800 ft.). On arrival check in to your hotel. Overnight stay at Yuksom.

Day 03: Explore Yuksom
After breakfast start to explore Yuksom. You can visit Norbughang Chorten (Coronation Throne), Karthok Lake, Dubdi Monastery Phemrong Waterfall & Tashiding Monastery. Overnight stay at Yuksom.

Day 04: Yuksom – Temi / Namchi via Pelling
This morning drive to Temi / Namchi. Enroute visit Khangchendzongha waterfalls, Khecheopalri Lake,  Rimbi water Falls & Pemayangtse Monastery. On arrival check-in to your hotel. Overnight stay at Temi / Namchi.

Day 05: Namchi Sightseeing
After breakfast enjoy the full day sightseeing covering Temi Tea, Samdruptse and Siddhesvar Dham - a miniature replica of the Indian Char Dhams located in our Country i.e. Jagannath Dham in East, Dwarika Dham in West, Badrinath Dham in North and Rameshwaram in South. It also has a 108 ft. Statue of Lord Shiva enclosed by the 12 'Lingas', a temple of Shirdi Sai Baba and an effigy of Lord Kirateshwara. It gives a feeling of complete mental peace & satisfaction. Overnight stay at Temi / Namchi.

Day 06: Temi / Namchi – Gangtok (70 kms / 3 hrs) Local Sightseeing
This morning drive to Gangtok (5,480 ft.). On arrival check-in to hotel. Afternoon start for a half day trip of Gangtok city covering Flower show, Cottage Industry and Handicraft Centre, Institute of Tibetology, Dro-dul Chorten, Enchey Monastery & Banjakhri Falls (maximum 3-4 hours). Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 07: Excursion to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir
After breakfast start for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) Which is 55 kms one way from Gangtok city. Overnight stay at Gangtok.
(In case of Land slide or any other reason Tsomgo Lake is closed we will provided alternate sightseeing.)

Day 08: Gangtok – NJP Rly Station / IXB airport (125 kms / 4 hrs) 
After breakfast Check-out from hotel and take the departure transfer to NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport for your onward journey.

How to reach Gangtok

By Road from Siliguri, Darjeeling & Kalimpong:

  • From Siliguri / NJP (~114 km / 4 to 4.5 hours): Via NH-10 along the scenic winding valley of the Teesta river through Sevoke, Coronation Bridge, Teesta Bazaar, and Rangpo into Gangtok.
  • From Darjeeling (~98 km / 3.5 to 4 hours): Via Peshok, Teesta Bazaar, and Rangpo.
  • From Kalimpong (~75 km / 2.5 to 3 hours): Via Teesta Bridge and Rangpo.
  • Regular shared Tata Sumo cabs, luxury innovas, and SNT (Sikkim Nationalised Transport) AC buses run continuously from Siliguri Central Bus Stand directly to Gangtok Deorali Stand.

By Train & Air:

  • Bagdogra International Airport (Airport Code: IXB - 120 km south): Major international airport with regular daily connections to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
  • Pakyong Airport (Airport Code: PYG - 30 km south): Regional airport with direct ATR flights to Kolkata and Delhi.

Places to Visit In Gangtok

Gangtok features glacial alpine lakes, 14,000ft Himalayan border passes, 16th-century monasteries, and vehicle-free promenades:

1. Tsomgo Lake / Changu Lake & Yak Safaris (Sacred Glacial Lake at 12,313ft - 38 km)

A sacred high altitude glacial lake situated at 3,753 meters (12,313 ft) on the Gangtok Nathula highway. Fed by melting snows, the oval shaped lake changes colors with seasons, freezes solid in winter, and offers joyrides on colorfully decorated mountain yaks.

2. Nathula Pass & Indo-China Border Post (Historic Silk Route at 14,140ft - 54 km)

A mountain pass perched at 4,310 meters (14,140 ft) on the Old Silk Route connecting India with Tibet. Visitors can observe the international border fence, Indian and Chinese army outposts, the world's highest ATM, and pay homage at the nearby Baba Harbhajan Singh War Memorial (requires special PAP permit).

3. Rumtek Monastery & Dharma Chakra Centre (Grand Seat of the Karmapa - 23 km)

The largest and most magnificent Buddhist monastery in Sikkim, serving as the international seat in exile of the Gyalwang Karmapa (head of the Karma Kagyu lineage). Reconstructed in the 1960s, the complex features a four story main shrine, brilliant Tibetan murals, golden stupas, and priceless Buddhist scriptures.

4. MG Marg & Heritage Promenade (Vehicle-Free Alpine Boulevard & Town Centre)

The vibrant cultural and social heart of Gangtok, MG Marg is a beautifully paved, vehicle free, smoke free, and litter free European style promenade. Lined with Victorian style park benches, lampposts, cafes, restaurants, and handicraft boutiques.

5. Ban Jhakri Falls & Shamanic Energy Park (100ft Cascade & Lepcha Heritage Park - 7 km)

A 100 foot natural mountain waterfall set within a 2 acre landscaped thematic energy park. Decorated with ethnic statues and exhibits depicting ancient Sikkimese shamanic folklore (Jhakri healer tradition), solar energy displays, and wooden bridges.

6. Namgyal Institute of Tibetology & Do Drul Chorten (Priceless Tibetan Relics & 108 Prayer Wheels - 2 km)

A world renowned autonomous research center dedicated to the study of Tibetan religion, language, and culture. The museum houses rare 11th century thangkas, bronze statues, and ancient manuscripts, located adjacent to the golden spired Do Drul Chorten with 108 prayer wheels.

7. Tashi Viewpoint & Bakthang Waterfalls (Panoramic Kanchenjunga Sunrise Spot - 8 km)

Built by Tashi Namgyal (the late King of Sikkim), this premier elevated viewpoint offers breathtaking sunrise vistas of Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu. En route, visitors stop at the gushing Bakthang Waterfalls along the highway.

8. Hanuman Tok & Ganesh Tok (High-Altitude Temples & Gangtok Valley Viewpoints - 11 km)

Scenic Hindu shrines maintained by the Indian Army and local devasthan trusts perched at over 7,200 feet, offering 360 degree panoramic lookouts over Gangtok city, the royal palace, and snowy Himalayan horizons.

9. Gangtok Ropeway / Cable Car & Enchey Monastery (200-Year-Old Nyingma Sanctuary & Aerial Rides)

A 1 km double zig zag bi cable ropeway soaring over Gangtok valley from Deorali to Tashiling. Nearby sits Enchey Monastery, a 200 year old sanctuary believed to be blessed by Lama Drupthob Karpo.
