From April to early June, over 40 distinct rhododendron species transform the entire 43 square-kilometer valley into a living landscape of brilliant colors.

The sanctuary is the primary protected home of Rhododendron niveum (Sikkim's state tree), celebrated for its compact rounded heads of smoky lilac to rich purple flowers blooming against rugged mountain rockfaces.
