On May 9, 1540, Maharana Pratap, the immortal warrior who fought Emperor Akbar at the Battle of Haldighati, was born inside the royal chambers of this palace.

Just years earlier, in 1536 AD, the heroic royal maid Panna Dai placed her own sleeping child in Prince Udai Singh's bed to be slain by the usurper Banvir, spirited away the future king to safety, and preserved the royal Sisodia bloodline that later founded Udaipur.
