1354 AD Foundation by Rao Bar Singh & Kipling's Legend

Rao Bar Singh laid the foundations of this fortress in 1354 AD to secure the fertile Chambal river plains against Sultanate raids from Delhi and Malwa.

When British author Rudyard Kipling visited Bundi in the late 19th century, he was so struck by its wild, organic integration into the rocky mountain crest that he wrote: 'It is the work of goblins, not of men.'
