Guinness World Records put its stamp on this one in 2005: the largest film studio complex on the planet. Ramoji Film City spreads across 2,000 acres at Abdullapurmet on Hyderabad's eastern edge. Media baron Ramoji Rao opened it in 1996, hiring art director Nitish Roy to turn jungle terrain into a filmmaker's paradise.
Forty seven sound stages anchor the production side. Around them sit permanent sets of forests, mansions, railway stations, even an airport terminal. Movies from across India shoot here constantly, right from the first full production, Maa Nannaku Pelli in 1997. The Baahubali Mahishmati sets alone draw crowds.
Look, tourists get the VIP treatment too. Guided coach tours roll through live shooting zones and set streets, while Filmi Duniya adds stunt shows and gardens. There's Wings, a bird park, plus the Eureka fun zone and Fundusthan carnival area for kids. Roughly 1.5 million visitors walk through every year.
Honest advice? Budget the whole day. The complex sits about 30 km from the city centre, so pair it with other things to do in Andhra Pradesh on a separate itinerary day rather than squeezing it into an evening.
The complex sits at Abdullapurmet along the Hyderabad Vijayawada highway.
Much of the experience is outdoors, so plan around Telangana's weather.
