About Nandprayag

Nandprayag is a sacred river confluence and serene mountain hamlet located at an altitude of 914 meters (2,999 feet) in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Serving as the second of the revered Panch Prayags (five sacred river confluences) along the Alaknanda River, Nandprayag marks the dramatic point where the pristine, glacial waters of the Nandakini River flowing from the Nanda Devi sanctuary merge into the mighty Alaknanda.

According to Hindu mythology, the confluence derives its name from King Nanda, the build father of Lord Krishna, who performed an elaborate yagna (fire sacrifice) here to seek Lord Vishnu's divine blessings. The town is also famous as the ancient capital of the Yadu kingdom. Pilgrims traveling through Nandprayag visit the historic Gopalji (Krishna) temple on the riverbank, perform ritual ablutions at the Sangam ghats, and admire the stark contrast between the crystal green Nandakini and the roaring grey Alaknanda.

Nandprayag is situated directly on National Highway 07 between Karnaprayag and Chamoli Gopeshwar.

By Road: Regularly connected by state transport buses and shared taxis along NH 07 from Rishikesh (190 km), Karnaprayag (20 km), and Joshimath (62 km).
By Train: Rishikesh and Yog Nagari Rishikesh are the nearest active railway stations (190 km away) linked with northern broad gauge networks.
By Air: Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport is 205 km away, offering regular domestic flights to major Indian metros.
