Kempty Fall

Kempty Fall is a world renowned multi tiered perennial cascade waterfall situated at an altitude of 1,364 meters along the Mussoorie Yamunotri highway in Mussoorie. Developed as a major tourist picnic destination in the 1830s by British officer John Mekinan in Uttarakhand, this 40 foot high cascade is the most visited natural landmark in the Garhwal hills.

The name Kempty originated from the colonial English phrase Camp Tea, referring to elaborate tea parties hosted here by British gentry against the rocky mountain backdrop. The cascading stream splits into five distinct sister rivulets before plunging into a broad, natural splash pool at the bottom of the gorge.

Visitors of all ages can swim, wade, and splash under the cold mountain spray in the designated pool area. An aerial ropeway cable car connects the highway road directly down to the waterfall base, offering striking aerial perspectives over the gushing mountain rapids.

Waterfall Amenities & Practical Details

Rental swimwear, rubber tubes, and secure locker facilities are available across multiple changing complexes. Vibrant souvenir bazaars and restaurants line the stepped descent.
