Maletha Village Tehri Garhwal

During the early 17th century, military commander Madho Singh Bhandari carved a stone irrigation canal (locally called Maletha Ki Kuhl) through solid mountain rock to divert water from the Chandrabhaga stream, transforming the parched plateau into lush agricultural fields. Local folklore and ballads continue to celebrate his selfless sacrifice for the community.

Today, Maletha features sprawling ginger, wheat, and seasonal vegetable farms against the backdrop of terraced Himalayan hillsides.
