About Baijnath Temple

Baijnath Temple is an eighth to twelfth century stone temple complex and an ASI protected archaeological site situated along the banks of the sacred Gomti River in Baijnath. Built by the Katyuri rulers when this fertile valley (then known as Kartikeyapura) served as their royal capital, the complex features a cluster of seventeen stone temples dedicated to Lord Vaidyanath (Lord Shiva as the divine physician) and Goddess Parvati.

Baijnath Temple in Baijnath, Uttarakhand

The central sanctum houses a grand black chlorite stone idol of Goddess Parvati depicted standing on an elaborate lotus pedestal. Pilgrims and travelers exploring central Uttarakhand gather by the stone river ghats to feed sacred mahseer fish and admire the Nagara style stone towers reflecting on the nearby artificial lake.

Truth is, early morning sunrise over the river ghats creates a striking reflection of the ancient stone towers. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM with free admission for all visitors.
