Agastya Muni Temple

Agastya Muni Temple (also called Agastyamuni Mahadev) is an ancient and revered holy shrine situated on the banks of the Mandakini River in the scenic town of Augustmuni in Uttarakhand. Perched at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters in Rudraprayag district, this sacred temple commemorates the great sage Maharishi Agastya, who according to Hindu epics performed intense tapasya (penance) for nearly a year at this peaceful riverside site.

Locally referred to as Agastyeshwar Mahadev, the stone temple complex is decorated with traditional hill carvings, religious inscriptions, and an expansive courtyard where the annual Baisakhi fair is celebrated with immense cultural fervor. Travelers heading along the pilgrimage route to Augustmuni stop here to admire the intricate stone craftsmanship, meditate beside the flowing Mandakini, and witness the prominent helicopter operations that base their Kedarnath shuttle flights from the town's sprawling sports ground.
