Painted with natural vegetable and mineral pigments (lapis lazuli, ochre, malachite, and lime) over a clay plaster base, the frescoes in Cave 1 depict Bodhisattva Padmapani holding a blue lotus with downcast eyes of boundless compassion.

Beside it stands Bodhisattva Vajrapani holding a diamond thunderbolt, surrounded by celestial apsaras, royal courtiers, and intricate ceiling panels illustrating Jataka tales that chronicle the previous earthly lives of the Buddha.

The 24 Foot Reclining Buddha, Chaitya 26 & Ellora Caves

Cave 26 & The Reclining Buddha: Features a 24 foot monolithic sculpture of Gautama Buddha entering Mahaparinirvana, resting peacefully beneath sala trees with mourning disciples carved below and heavenly beings above.
