Jagannath Temple

Jagannath Temple (celebrated across Kerala as the historic Thalassery Sree Jagannath Temple and the epicentre of Sree Narayana Guru's social renaissance movement), situated in Madappally near Jagannath Temple Gate just 2 km south of Thalassery in Kerala, is one of South India's most socially transformative, spiritually sacred, and iconic Shiva pilgrimage sanctums.

The 1908 AD Sree Narayana Guru Consecration

In 1908, when backward communities were strictly barred from entering mainstream upper caste temples, Sree Narayana Guru consecrated the sacred Shiva Lingam at Thalassery, igniting a social revolution across Malabar.

Under the Guru's guidance, the temple welcomed all communities and operated an adjoining free school, community kitchen, and interfaith library to build education and social harmony.
