Rising to an altitude of 8,051 feet (2,454 meters) above sea level, Jakhoo Hill is the highest mountain peak in Shimla and a celebrated spiritual landmark in Himachal Pradesh. Crowned by the ancient Jakhoo Hanuman Temple, Hindu mythology recounts that Lord Hanuman paused on this summit to rest while searching for the life giving Sanjeevani herb during the Ramayana battle.
A towering 108 foot colossal vermilion statue of Lord Hanuman, unveiled in 2010, stands prominently above the pine tree canopy and is visible from almost anywhere across Shimla town. The summit offers striking 360 degree views of the Greater Himalayas, Shivalik mountain ranges, and the colorful settlement below.
Visitors reach the top via a scenic 2.5 kilometer uphill trek through oak woodlands from the Ridge or by boarding the modern Jakhoo Ropeway cable car from the Ridge station, which glides smoothly to the summit in just six minutes.

The giant statue of Lord Hanuman at Jakhoo Temple stands 108 feet (33 meters) tall at an elevation of 8,051 feet above sea level.
Tourists can take the Jakhoo Ropeway cable car (6 minute ride), hire a local taxi via Sanjauli, or hike up the 2.5 kilometer forest trail.
The ropeway operates daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A two way return ticket costs approximately Rs 500 to Rs 600 per adult.
The hill has a large population of resident rhesus macaque monkeys. Visitors should secure spectacles, phones, sunglasses, and snacks inside bags.
The temple remains open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the year. Entry to the shrine is free.
