Annandale

Tucked within a serene natural valley basin roughly 4 kilometers west of the Ridge in Shimla, Annandale is a historic high altitude plateau surrounded by ancient deodar and oak trees in Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of 6,117 feet (1,864 meters), it served as the playground of the British Raj from the 1830s for polo matches, cricket derbies, and grand garden picnics.

Today, the pristine ground is managed by the Indian Army, featuring a manicured helipad, mini golf course, and the renowned Army Heritage Museum. The museum preserves rare military memorabilia, captured war trophies, vintage uniforms, and weapon galleries honoring the valor of Indian armed forces from ancient times through modern conflicts.

A landscaped glasshouse conservatory adjacent to the museum displays native Himalayan alpine flora and cacti species. The tranquil walk descending from Chaura Maidan through pine fragrant roads makes Annandale a peaceful cultural excursion.
