Chadwick Falls

Dropping dramatically from an altitude of 1,586 meters through dense deodar and oak woodlands inside the Glen Forest reserve, Chadwick Falls is a scenic natural cascade located 7 kilometers west of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. The waterfall tumbles down a nearly vertical gorge over 86 meters (280 feet) into a tranquil emerald pool.

Local lore attributes the name to 'Chhad Jharokha', meaning a cold water cascade, which British colonizers later Anglicized to Chadwick. The final approach involves a tranquil 1.5 kilometer downhill forest trail originating near Summer Hill, leading past wild fern groves, chir pine trees, and trickling mountain streams.

The cascade surges to peak volume during and immediately following the monsoon rains from July through October. Nature photographers, birdwatchers, and hikers appreciate the secluded atmosphere away from crowded central town squares.
