Rani Jheel is an artificial lake constructed by the Indian Army's Kumaon Regimental Centre to harvest rainwater and create an eco friendly recreational haven in Ranikhet. Situated at an altitude of roughly 1,800 meters amidst pine and oak glades, this calm body of water provides a tranquil mountain retreat.
The lake was excavated in a natural depression tucked between two forested hill ridges. Carefully maintained by the Cantonment Board, Rani Jheel reflects clear blue mountain skies, bordered by willow trees and neat paved walking promenades.
Rani Jheel is a favorite spot for pedal boating in Ranikhet. Visitors can rent 2 seater and 4 seater pedal boats to glide peacefully across the emerald green waters while enjoying the cool mountain breeze and birdsong.
The lakeside perimeter features wooden gazebos, stone benches, and a small cafeteria serving hot tea and snacks. The quiet surroundings offer an excellent environment for family relaxation, romantic afternoon strolls, and landscape photography away from town traffic.
