Chaubatia Gardens is a sprawling 600 acre botanical and fruit research estate situated at an altitude of 1,800 meters, about 10 kilometers from Ranikhet. Translating to The Junction of Four Paths, the estate was established in 1869 by British colonial horticulturists to experiment with temperate fruit cultivation in the Himalayas.
Today, Chaubatia houses the renowned Government Fruit Research Centre. The vast terraced hillsides nurture over 200 distinct varieties of delicious apples, alongside peaches, plums, apricots, walnuts, and chestnuts thriving in the rich mountain soil.
Visitors can take leisurely walks through endless rows of fruit laden trees, guided by fragrant mountain breezes and birdsong. An on site state sales counter allows travelers to sample and buy pure organic apple juice, fruit jams, artisan chutneys, and genuine Himalayan wild honey harvested from the estate apiary.
The highest ridge point inside the gardens commands an extraordinary 300 kilometer wide panorama of the snow clad Greater Himalayan range, showcasing crystal clear views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandakot, and Nilkanth peaks.
Located on the southern mountain crest of Ranikhet, Chaubatia Gardens is an essential nature and agricultural highlight across Uttarakhand.
