Jwalpa Devi Temple

Jwalpa Devi Temple is an ancient Hindu Siddhpeeth shrine dedicated to Goddess Jwalpa (an incarnation of Goddess Durga), located on the scenic forested banks of the Nawalika (Eastern Nayar) River along the Pauri to Kotdwar highway, roughly 34 kilometers from Pauri in Uttarakhand. Perched at an altitude of approximately 850 meters, this revered river shrine is one of the foremost centers of Mother Goddess worship in the Garhwal hills.

According to ancient legend, Goddess Parvati manifested here in the form of a radiant flame (Jwala) to grant darshan to demon king Puloma's daughter Sachi, who performed deep penance here to marry Lord Indra. Known throughout Garhwal as a wish fulfilling shrine, hundreds of mass weddings are solemnly performed in the temple courtyard every year. Pilgrims take a ritual holy bath in the crystal clear Nayar river waters before offering coconuts, red chunris, and sweet batashas at the sanctum.

Truth is, dipping your feet in the cool Nayar river while soft temple aarti bells echo across the mountain canyon brings profound calm. It remains an essential spiritual sanctuary in Uttarakhand's Pauri district.
