Khaliya Top is a high altitude alpine meadow (bugyal) and premier trekking summit situated at an elevation of roughly 3,500 meters (11,500 feet), towering above Munsiyari in eastern Kumaon. The 6 km uphill trek begins near Balati Bend, winding through dense rhododendron and oak forests before breaking out into rolling alpine bugyals where Monal pheasants and Himalayan musk deer roam. Trekkers and adventure lovers touring northern Uttarakhand stay overnight at the alpine KMVN hut or pitch tents under a sea of stars to witness golden sunrise illuminating the entire Himalayan range.
Truth is, standing on the summit ridge with icy winds and towering Himalayan walls in every direction is an exhilarating mountain high. The trail is open to trekkers with basic forest entry registration.
