Mahamritunjaya Mahadev Temple is the largest, oldest, and most prominent sanctum within the ancient sacred complex of Jageshwar Dham. Dating back to the eighth century during the early Katyuri dynasty, this towering stone Nagara shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Mahamrityunjaya, the conqueror of death, illness, and physical suffering.

A unique eye shaped opening on the ancient Shiva Lingam represents the third eye of Shiva. Chanting the sacred Mahamrityunjaya Jaap here among towering deodars is believed by pilgrims touring Uttarakhand to grant longevity, health, and liberation from untimely demise.
Truth is, the rhythmic sound of Sanskrit chants echoing through the stone sanctum provides deep spiritual peace. Darshan is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM with free entry for all devotees.
The best months to visit Mahamritunjaya Mahadev Temple are from April to June and September to November when mountain weather is pleasant and clear.
