Jagannath Temple, also referred to as the primary Jageshwar Mahadev Temple, is the spiritual epicenter and primary consecrated sanctum of Jageshwar Dham. Constructed between the eighth and twelfth centuries by the Katyuri and early Chand rulers, this ancient stone temple is traditionally revered as the eighth or Nagesh Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva amidst the sacred Darukavana deodar forest.
Flanked by two imposing stone gatekeeper dwarapalas (Nandi and Skandi) holding tridents at the entrance, the sanctum houses a natural Swayambhu lingam divided into two parts representing Shiva and Parvati. Pilgrims traveling across Uttarakhand gather here for sacred jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek pujas.
Truth is, the early morning Aarti with temple conches reverberating through the misty forest is deeply striking. Darshan runs daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM with free entry for all devotees.
