Jageshwar Mahadev Temple is the celebrated heart of the ancient temple sanctuary of Jageshwar Dham, comprising a historic cluster of over 124 stone temples tucked among towering Himalayan deodar forests. Preserved meticulously by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), these classical stone shrines were built between the seventh and fourteenth centuries by the Katyuri and Chand dynasties.
The temple complex is believed to have been consecrated and revived by Adi Shankaracharya during the eighth century. Pilgrims touring Uttarakhand perform sacred circumambulations around the towering stone shikharas, offering bilva leaves and fresh mountain spring water at the ancient sanctums.
Truth is, early morning mist drifting across the stone courtyards creates an otherworldly spiritual ambiance. The complex is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM with free admission for all devotees.
