About Angora Farm

Located in a peaceful terraced valley roughly 1 kilometer from the central market in Gwaldam in Chamoli district, the Government Angora Farm is a specialized high altitude animal husbandry station in Uttarakhand. Established by the state animal welfare department, the breeding facility is dedicated to rearing German and British Angora rabbits renowned for their ultra soft, lightweight, and exceptionally warm fleece.

Angora Farm Gwaldam Wool

The farm plays a central role in supporting local mountain cottage industries by distributing high breed bunnies to rural women self help groups across Garhwal and Kumaon. Visitors are guided through well ventilated rabbit sheds where trained caretakers demonstrate painless wool shearing techniques conducted every three months.

An adjacent demonstration center showcases traditional spinning wheels and pit looms where raw fleece is spun into pure yarn and woven into warm caps, gloves, mufflers, and Kullu style shawls. The farm outlet offers tourists the opportunity to buy certified authentic mountain handloom woolens directly from local weavers.
