Hidimba Parvat is a lush forested hill situated approximately 5 kilometers from Bhimtal lake. Rising to an altitude of roughly 1,650 meters, the hill takes its name from demoness Hidimba, the wife of the strong Pandava prince Bhima in the Mahabharata.
The wooded hill stands as a serene environmental sanctuary founded by the revered monk and environmentalist Vankhandi Maharaj. He lived as an ascetic here, dedicating his life to planting trees and caring for injured wild animals roaming the Kumaoni mountains.
A gentle 2 kilometer hiking trail ascends through dense oak, pine, and rhododendron groves to reach the top. At the peak sits Vankhandi Ashram, a quiet spiritual retreat surrounded by a deer sanctuary and botanical shelter.
The hermitage area remains calm and peaceful, allowing visitors to meditate, view rescued wildlife, and take in expansive views of the Bhimtal and Sattal lake basins. Wild birds and butterflies abound throughout the protected slope.
Positioned on the scenic heights of Bhimtal, this sacred hill trail makes a refreshing day trek during your travels through Uttarakhand.
