The Legend of Ucchi Pillayar & King Vibhishana

Following Lord Rama's coronation, King Vibhishana was carrying the sacred idol of Lord Ranganatha back to Sri Lanka under strict divine condition never to place it on the ground.

Lord Ganesha took the form of a small cowherd boy, tricked Vibhishana into letting him hold the idol, and placed it firmly on the banks of the Cauvery (founding Srirangam) before fleeing to the summit of Rockfort where he still sits in joyful blessing.
