The Endemic Dzukou Lily & Dwarf Bamboo Waves

The crown jewel of the valley is the rare Dzukou Lily, a delicate pinkish white flower that blooms exclusively in this high altitude basin between June and early August.

Unlike ordinary Himalayan alpine meadows of grass, Dzukou is carpeted entirely by dwarf bamboo (only 2 to 3 feet high), creating a continuous undulating green velvet appearance across thousands of acres.

Viswema vs Jakhama Trekking Trails & Cave Camping

Viswema Trail (Recommended for Ascent): The gentler trail featuring an 8 km motorable road to the trek point, followed by a steep 45 minute stone staircase climb and a gentle 2 hour ridgeline walk into the valley.

Jakhama Trail (Recommended for Descent): A steeper, more direct 4 hour trail along a gushing mountain stream with continuous carved stone steps, favored by experienced hikers for descent.

Dzukou Valley 2 Day Trekking Expedition Plan

The 2 Day Wilderness Expedition: Day 1: Early morning departure from Kohima to Viswema trailhead (6:30 AM) -> climb steep forest steps to valley rim (7:30 AM to 9:00 AM) -> scenic ridgeline walk to Dzukou Rest House (9:15 AM to 11:30 AM) -> check in & hot lunch -> afternoon exploration of valley floor, crystal river pools & ghost caves (1:30 PM to 5:00 PM) -> campfire dinner & dormitory / tent stay. Day 2: 5:30 AM sunrise over green bamboo waves -> descend via Jakhama trail (7:30 AM to 11:30 AM) -> lunch at Kisama Heritage Village.

Plastic Free Guidelines & Accommodation: Dzukou is strictly plastic free; plastic bottles are deposited and tagged at the entry checkpoint; basic dormitory beds (Rs 100/night) and sleeping mats/blankets (Rs 50 each) are available at the community rest house.
