Shaniwar Wada (the historic 18th century fortified palace citadel commissioned in 1732 AD by Shrimant Peshwa Bajirao I as the imperial seat of the Maratha Empire) in Shaniwar Peth, Pune (celebrated globally across Maratha military history, fortress architecture, and Peshwa heritage as the political epicenter from which Maratha confederacies expanded across the subcontinent), world famous for its massive Dilli Darwaza fortified with 72 elephant deflecting iron spikes, stone ramparts and gun bastions, the foundations of the seven story wooden palace, the legendary sixteen petal thousand jet lotus fountain (Hazari Karanje), and an intensely captivating, deeply historical citadel atmosphere), located in the cultural hub of Pune in Maharashtra, stands as Maharashtra's supreme urban fortress landmark.

The Dilli Darwaza & Elephant Spikes

The colossal northern gateway, Dilli Darwaza, faced towards Delhi to reflect the Peshwa's supreme ambition to conquer the Mughal capital.

The Hazari Karanje & Palace Citadel Ruins

The Thousand Jet Lotus Fountain: Inside the inner court rests Hazari Karanje, an intricate stone fountain shaped like a sixteen petaled blooming lotus, designed to shoot a thousand synchronized water jets during royal festivals.

Palace Foundations & Ramparts: Visitors can walk along the perimeter stone battlements, exploring the stone plinths of the royal residential halls, court rooms, and audience chambers.
