Betaab Valley

Betaab Valley (originally known as Hajan Valley or Hagan Valley) is an iconic river valley situated fifteen kilometers northeast of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, along the road leading toward Chandanwari. tucked at an elevation of 2,425 meters (7,956 feet) between the Zabarwan and Pir Panjal mountain ranges, this scenic valley got its famous contemporary name from the blockbuster 1983 Bollywood romance film 'Betaab' starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh, which was filmed extensively across its meadows.

The centerpiece of Betaab Valley is the crystal clear, turquoise Lidder River that cuts gracefully through expansive manicured lawns, surrounded by dense deodar and pine woodlands. A beautifully maintained public park developed by the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) features wooden footbridges crossing rushing glacial brooks, cobblestone walking trails, landscaped floral beds, and comfortable gazebo shelters where travelers relax under refreshing mountain air.

The dramatic contrast of emerald green lawns, rushing mountain water, and snow capped Himalayan peaks in the background has made Betaab Valley one of the most photographed film locations in Asia. Visitors enjoy walking along the riverbank, riding horses through the pine forest, and taking guided nature walks. Park Facilities, Entry Fees & Photography

Betaab Valley park is open daily to tourists from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Entry tickets cost 100 rupees for adults and 50 rupees for children. The park provides well maintained public amenities including clean washrooms, souvenir shops, children's play areas, and kiosks offering traditional Kashmiri costume dress up for souvenir photography.

Cafes, River Walks & Picnic Spots

Lakeside cafes inside the park serve hot Kashmiri saffron kahwa, grilled sweet corn, wazwan snacks, and tea. Sitting beside the roaring Lidder River while watching Himalayan birds and mountain trout swimming in transparent pools offers deep relaxation for families and romantic couples alike.
