Trikuta Parvat (the Three Peaked Holy Mountain) is the sacred mountain massif of the lower Shivalik and Himalayan ranges towering above Katra in Reasi district. Rising to a commanding altitude of 1,584 meters (5,200 feet), this legendary mountain takes its name from its three prominent rocky summits that symbolize the divine Hindu trinity of Goddess Mahakali, Goddess Mahalakshmi, and Goddess Mahasaraswati.

Trikuta Parvat is internationally venerated as the sanctified abode of the world famous Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine (Bhawan), located deep inside a natural limestone cavern at an altitude of 1,585 meters. Millions of pilgrims from all over the world undertake the sacred thirteen kilometer uphill yatra from Katra base, traversing well paved, illuminated mountain paths that wind past historic pilgrimage stops including Ban Ganga, Charan Paduka, Ardhkuwari Cave, and Sanjichhat.
The mountain slopes are blanketed with dense forests of pine, deodar, oak, and wild medicinal herbs, supporting thriving populations of Himalayan gray langurs, rhesus macaques, barking deer, and colorful mountain pheasants. Modern infrastructure managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) includes battery operated eco vehicles, state of the art passenger ropeways connecting Bhawan to Bhairon Temple, and passenger helicopter shuttles from Katra to Sanjichhat. Visiting this holy mountain is the ultimate spiritual highlight when traveling to Katra, offering unmatched spiritual energy and sweeping valley views.
The 13 km yatra track begins at Katra (Ban Ganga check post) and ascends past Charan Paduka (1.5 km), Ardhkuwari holy cave (6 km), and Sanjichhat helipad (9.5 km) before reaching the holy Bhawan (13 km). From Bhawan, pilgrims take the passenger cable car ropeway or climb an additional 1.5 km steep trail to Bhairon Temple to complete their pilgrimage.
All pilgrims must obtain a mandatory RFID Yatra Access Card (free of charge) online or at Katra registration counters before entering the track. SMVDSB provides 24 hour medical dispensaries, free drinking water points, clean sanitization complexes, vegetarian bhojanalayas, and cloakrooms throughout the mountain trail.
