The Kangra Museum, officially known as the Kangra Art Museum, is a treasure house of Pahari art and tribal culture located near Kotwali Bazaar in Dharamshala. Inaugurated in 1990, it showcases rich Kangra valley heritage and Dogra royal heirlooms in Himachal Pradesh.
The museum is celebrated for its priceless collection of Kangra miniature paintings depicting the divine romance of Radha and Krishna with delicate brushstrokes and natural mineral pigments. Additional galleries display Gaddi tribal costumes, antique silver jewelry, embroidered Chamba rumaals, and royal palanquins.
Truth is, history enthusiasts love the archaeological wing housing stone carvings and coin hoards dating from the 5th century AD. A dedicated section showcases antique firearms, brass temple utensils, and wood carved architectural elements salvaged from historic regional shrines.
