Sumitranandan Pant Gallery is a memorial museum located in Kausani, dedicated to the celebrated pioneer of the Chhayavadi romantic movement in Hindi literature. Born in Kausani in 1900, Pant grew up surrounded by the towering snow peaks of the Himalayas, which deeply shaped his romantic and nature inspired poetry.
The museum is housed inside the poet's ancestral hill bungalow. Preserved by the government and cultural trusts, the gallery offers an intimate window into the life, philosophy, and literary achievements of the first Hindi writer to receive the prestigious Jnanpith Award.
Inside the museum rooms, visitors can admire glass cases displaying the poet's handwritten drafts, original poem manuscripts, personal diary entries, and his classic writing desk. His prestigious awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and Jnanpith citation, are proudly presented.
The gallery also features an extensive library stocked with classic editions of Hindi and Sanskrit literature, alongside personal letters exchanged with contemporaries like Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Rabindranath Tagore, and Mahatma Gandhi.
Situated in the heart of Kausani, this literary shrine is a must see landmark for literature enthusiasts and students touring Uttarakhand.
