Anasakti Ashram, widely celebrated as Gandhi Ashram, is a historic memorial retreat sitting high on the scenic ridge of Kausani. Mahatma Gandhi spent fourteen days here in 1929, captivated by the majestic Himalayan panorama which prompted him to name Kausani the Switzerland of India.
During his stay, Gandhi penned his renowned treatise Anasakti Yoga, a philosophical commentary on the Bhagavad Gita emphasizing selfless action without attachment to outcomes. The hermitage preserves his living quarters, meditation veranda, and daily spinning charkha in pristine condition.
The ashram terrace offers one of the finest vantage points in Uttarakhand, showcasing uninterrupted 300 kilometer wide views of Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli peaks. Watching the golden sunrise illuminate the snow crests is an unforgettable experience.
