Sat Tal

Sat Tal (Seven Lakes) near Dharali is a striking cluster of high altitude interconnected natural freshwater lakes perched at an elevation of roughly 2,800 meters (9,200 feet), about 3 km above Harsil in the Bhagirathi river basin. Hidden amidst dense alpine forests of deodar, pine, and birch trees, these pristine mountain tarns are named after revered characters of the Mahabharata, including Panna Tal, Draupadi Tal, and Ram Tal.

The rewarding 3 km uphill nature trek starts from Dharali village, crossing bubbling freshwater streams, ancient wooden watermills (gharats), and vibrant rhododendron canopies. Trekkers and nature lovers exploring northern Uttarakhand marvel at the crystal clear emerald waters mirroring snow covered Himalayan summits and dense pine woods.

Truth is, camping beside the secluded lakes under starry Himalayan skies is pure bliss. The trail is open during daylight hours with zero entry fees.
